“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”Howard Thurman
Take a risk for your own happiness.
You know this place ain’t where you belong,
despite the hot doctor and knowing you’re doing good.
Cliquey as shit and all that anxiety with no support,
and the pay! and the cancer risks, COVID too!
No, no this is not where you belong,
you’re not singing your song,
and you know it — deep into your bones,
the dread on a Sunday morning,
knowing tomorrow, tomorrow, I’ll have to go back,
so you escape into video games,
hide in your green home,
but still you’re dragging your feet
into your car, into the hospital
and it happens all over again and again
a cycle of anxiety and anguish and it’s fine.
It’s not fine! Get out while you are still alive-
they do not care about you, you are a number,
a paycheck, a thing to do work that makes more money
so your CEO can buy a Mercedes every year.
He does not care about you, does not care about the kids
(or maybe he does — Mercedes must love his coping mechanism!),
he too is just a cog in the system, dragging his feet,
escaping into games – no one cares about him,
so he doesn’t care about you, and the cycle continues
and continues and continues til you are both so numb
you are no longer human.
You did it! You quit! Your adventure as a human begins!
Finding your place, where you belong
and can sing your song – dance to work,
dance at work! Trial and error, yes there’s some terror,
but we care about you and we need you right here!
We need you to find what it is that makes you come alive,
Love life, love you, love me, love the world.
No more Zombies, please.
